Some places certainly are more hospitable than others. Imagine you wake from a deep sleep and find yourself here. You don’t know where in the world you are, or how you got here. There’s no one else in sight and no sign of civilisation. It’s cold though – bone-chillingly cold, and you can’t simply wait for help to arrive. For one thing, you can see the shapes of large wild animals in the distance, and they might just be hungry…
